An Interdisciplinary exploration for all ages—Visit the Omni Institute in Greenpoint, Brooklyn or Bedford, NY and become a part of our one-room schoolhouse community. Hold creatively inspired spaces outside the institution.

  • Interdisciplinary Exploration: Dancitecture

Decolonizing embodied consciousness with play and movement. Designing the built environment is an act of choreography. At the intersection of dance and architecture, DANCITECTURE is a contemplative urban ritual for social connection, self-exploration and public placemaking.

A tape labyrinth illustrates architecture as a choreographic tool. Animating public spaces, it activates an embodied imagining and storytelling process through movement. Journey through the labyrinth maps cultures encoded within bodies as bodies respond to cultures encoded in the built environment.

Sites and typologies of practice telescope from the cellular consciousness of the body, to social movement in public space, to migration narratives of world-majority and third-culture families weaving community in the diaspora.

Future phases of the project will springboard beyond the art activations into educational, community-centered design workshops that build design literacy and knowledge around civic placemaking processes. Outcomes from the workshops could inform local participatory budgeting proposals or attract other resources for community-led, culturally relevant design actions.

May our voices add valuable insight, richness and texture to be reflected in the design of our neighborhood spaces!

  • Re-humanizing—Philosophy Room

We believe in philosophy, logic, intuition and intellectual exploration: Anything that allows students of all ages to explore the world around them and ignite the existential crisis – Who am I?Why am I here? What am I/we supposed to do? The education paradox is – how do you encourage the wandering and seeking mind to continue in childlike curiosity while still preparing each individual for a very structured, regimented and non-curious world that tends to be driven by capitalist pursuits, work, family responsibility and awareness of socially normative ideas? For us – the first step is providing a space for students of all ages to philosophize. We call this space The Philosophy Room.

  • Knowledge Sharing: Open Forum

Our open forum’s are all about knowledge sharing. Whether that knowledge be in the arts, the sciences, the trades or the magical our one-room school house invites the community to share their work, their studies, their research or their skills. We have learned from calligraphers, poets, musicians, particle physicists, natural builders, comedians, educators, entrepreneurs, tech designers, coders, crypto gurus and more.

On this particular evening we learned from Consensus—a British rapper whose music is inspired by his work as a particle physicist.
