Land-Based Education

The Omni Institute has 37 acres of land in Upstate NY, 15 acres of which is conservation forest, for educational pursuits. Scholars can learn beneath the trees in an outdoor environment that inspires inquiry through observation and exploration of the natural entities, including self. Whether the exploration starts with hiking, hammocking, meditating, or creating and giving gratitude to found art it continues with depth and research.

  • Conservation in Fly Creek, NY

    This 15 acre plot on BB Hill is the start of a larger collection of conservation lands where people can hike, explore, meditate and create. The natural curiosity and inspiration that comes when learning in a forest is something all students need to experience. Experience what it means when you exist with the land rather than purchasing to dominate the land and make it yours. Conservation is a part of the human experience that needs to be shared and sought. With proper planning the Omni Institute will create an interdisciplinary project that uses decolonized research methodology for your specific group of scholars send us a note to get your exploration booked and planned.

  • 22 Acres in Otsego, NY

    Wild flowers, apple trees, hammock camps and a library of writings from across the African Diaspora. Learn how to make a proper walking stick and use it to explore the flora and fauna. Wildflower identification that teaches about invasive species vs. non-invasive species and how to cultivate what’s in existence rather than disturb or destroy it. Participate in writing practices among the trees and perform your work around a fire pit to finalize your adventure.
